The Forks Coffee Shop's massive logger's breakfast. Three eggs, hash browns, three meats, three pancakes. The "I've been driving since 5 AM" meal.
The clam chowder at Pike Place Chowder, inducted into the Great Chowder Cook-Off Hall of Fame after three first-place wins in Newport, RI. Worth standing in line for. Try the smoked salmon chowder version too.
Portland's tourist-iconic doughnut. Locals will tell you Blue Star is better. Both are right. Have one of each.
The classic Oregon Coast clam chowder. Multiple Mo's locations all the way down the coast. Newport, Otter Rock, Florence, Lincoln City. Get the bread bowl.
The legendary Oregon Coast dairy stop. Tillamook Creamery is the visitor center version. Same ice cream is cheaper at any local store.
Walla Walla sweet onions are a registered varietal. Every restaurant in the wine country uses them. Try them roasted whole at Saffron Mediterranean. Available only May through August.
The Sawtooth Hotel breakfast at Mountain Village. The eggs benedict with hash browns after a sunrise hike is the move. Tiny dining room, get there early.

If we have an hour, we go to Chestnut Cottage. Old-school feel, huge portions, the kind of pancakes that make a 6-year-old stop talking for a full ten minutes. Get there before 9 AM in summer or you're waiting. Worth it either way.
If we want something lighter, New Day Eatery downtown. Smoothies, waffles, healthy bowls, and they have great vegan options if anyone in your group needs them.
If we're already grocery shopping, the deli at Country Aire Natural Foods on First Street has good pastries. Two birds.
The Lake Crescent Lodge dining room serves breakfast daily during the season. Solid eggs and pancakes, lake view, no reservations needed for breakfast or lunch. Open to the public, not just guests.
If you're starting your day at the lake, pack from Port Angeles before you come. The drive over is short enough that New Day Eatery smoothies and waffles in town are still fresh by the time you get to the dock.
The Springs Restaurant at the resort serves breakfast daily during the season. Eggs, pancakes, oatmeal. Reasonable for a national park resort. Open to the public, not just guests. Best to get there by 8 AM in summer.
If you're driving in for the day, pack from Country Aire in Port Angeles before you leave. Picnic at the resort or at the falls trailhead.
The local move is Bell Street Bakery. Lavender lemon scones, croissants, breakfast sandwiches. Get there before 11 AM or the popular stuff sells out. Walk-up counter, easy with kids.
If you want a sit-down breakfast, Sunshine Cafe on West Washington Street is the local diner everyone keeps recommending. Big portions, friendly, fast. The biscuits and gravy alone are worth it.
The local move is Sweet Laurette. Counter-service French bakery with quiches, pastries, and a few hot breakfast options. Sit at the wood tables in the historic brick room. Get there before 10 AM in summer.
If you want something fast, Velocity Tea House tucked into the Maritime Center has pastries. Easy stop on the way to Fort Worden. Pippa's Tea Room in Uptown is the sit-down English-style breakfast, scones with clotted cream and jam.
Slim pickings here. Most lodging in the area has kitchenettes for a reason. Halfway House Restaurant in Quilcene serves a solid country breakfast in a working roadside diner.
For Brinnon, Geoduck Restaurant is two minutes from Dosewallips State Park. Standard breakfast menu, friendly service, water-adjacent.
The local move is The In Place Restaurant. Old-school diner where loggers eat at 5 AM and tourists eat at 9. Big breakfasts and biscuits and gravy that feed two. Walk-in.
For something faster, Forks Outfitters cafeteria inside the grocery store has breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and to-go items. Easy stop while you're already there for groceries.
The local move is to eat breakfast in Forks before heading out, or pack a breakfast picnic. Lonesome Creek Store sells breakfast burritos, hot drinks, and snacks if you arrived without food. The store is your only food option in La Push itself.
If you're staying at Quileute Oceanside Resort, the cabins have full kitchens. Cook breakfast looking at the Pacific.
Eat breakfast in Forks before driving out, or pack a road breakfast with breakfast burritos from Forks Outfitters. Hard Rain Cafe halfway up Upper Hoh Road serves breakfast when it is open, and it is the last food before the rainforest.
The classic Seattle breakfast move is at Pike Place Market. Biscuit Bitch for messy, generous Southern-style biscuits and gravy (the Bitchwitch with bacon is the move). Lowell's for real diner breakfast with floor-to-ceiling Sound views. Three Girls Bakery at the back of the market for the biggest cinnamon rolls and quick sit-down counter.
Outside the market, Portage Bay Cafe in South Lake Union is the local favorite for healthy, family-friendly weekend breakfast (the brunch toppings bar is a hit with kids). Multiple locations.
On Bainbridge, Streamliner Diner is the local greasy-spoon classic on Winslow Way. Big breakfasts, friendly service, walk-in. Cafe Hitchcock for pastries and breakfast sandwiches.
On Whidbey, Knead & Feed in Coupeville does fresh-baked breakfast pastries and full breakfasts overlooking the harbor. Sweet Mona's Chocolates in Langley is the morning treats stop for early starters with kids.
On San Juan Island, Rocky Bay Cafe in Friday Harbor is the local breakfast joint with classic diner food and big portions, walk-in. The Bakery on Spring Street is the morning pastry stop.
On Orcas Island, Brown Bear Baking in Eastsound is the breakfast pastry pick. Croissants, scones, breakfast sandwiches, the place locals walk to. Lines on summer weekends.
On Lopez Island, Holly B's Bakery in Lopez Village has been a local-favorite since 1977. Cinnamon rolls, sticky buns, fresh bread. Worth the ferry by itself. Cash and card.
In Tacoma, The Hub in the Proctor District does big classic breakfasts with house-baked biscuits, walk-in. Corina Bakery downtown for cinnamon rolls and breakfast quiche. Honey Donuts for old-school glazed donuts before the kids burn out.
In Olympia, San Francisco Street Bakery is the breakfast pastry pick (cardamom rolls are the local favorite). The Bread Peddler for fresh-baked breakfast pastries and full breakfasts in a sit-down setting.
In Enumclaw (about 30 min west of the entrance), Mint Alehouse does big plates and walk-in seating. Stewart's Meat Market & Cafe is the local-favorite breakfast spot with hot sandwiches and homemade pies.
In Greenwater (14 mi west of the entrance), Wapiti Woolies is the wool-shop-and-bakery combo where through-hikers fuel up before tackling the Wonderland Trail. Pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and the most photographed log cabin shop in the area.
No breakfast options inside the park on the north side. The Sunrise Day Lodge cafeteria opens later (typically 10 AM). Pack breakfast or eat in town before driving up.
In Ashford (south entrance side), Copper Creek Inn Restaurant has been serving travelers since 1946. Big breakfasts, blackberry pie, walk-in. 2 minutes from the Nisqually entrance.
Inside the park, the National Park Inn dining room at Longmire serves a full breakfast year-round (open in winter when Paradise Inn isn't). Sit-down with mountain views on clear days. The Paradise Inn dining room serves breakfast May-October only.
In Packwood (east side), Cliff Droppers does breakfast burgers and big plates. The local bakery on Main Street is the morning pastry stop on the way to the east side of the park.
The headline breakfast: Mazama Bakery inside the Mazama Store. Pastries, breakfast sandwiches, hot drinks. The locals' morning ritual, walk-in always works. Best bakery on the entire Highway 20 corridor.
In Winthrop, Rocking Horse Bakery on Riverside Avenue does fresh pastries and breakfast sandwiches. Sheri's Sweet Shoppe on Main Street is mostly for ice cream but also has cinnamon rolls in the morning.
In Marblemount (west side), Buffalo Run Restaurant does breakfast classics in a roadhouse setting. The big-portions, fill-up-before-the-trail option.
Gingerbread Factory on Front Street is the iconic morning stop with line-out-the-door pastries, gingerbread cookies, and the cottage-decor interior kids love. Cinnamon rolls the size of your hand.
Renaissance Cafe for sit-down breakfast classics in a homey spot off Front Street. Reliable, family-friendly. The local-favorite breakfast.
Yodelin Broth Co. for breakfast bowls and warming soups, especially good in winter. The Danish Bakery on Front Street has Swedish and Danish pastries unlike anything else in town. Most travelers walk past it for the more famous Gingerbread Factory, but the cream-and-jam danish is the under-the-radar move.

Kayt's Kitchen (Newberg, Fri-Sat only). Filipino American food truck. Ube crinkle cookies, calamansi tarts, fruit-stuffed brioche, menu rotates weekly. The "I had no idea" wine country breakfast. Spelled Kayt, not Katy, which is how people miss it. About $8-15/person.
Word of Mouth Bistro. Downtown Salem. Locals' favorite breakfast and brunch, massive portions, family-friendly. The most-recommended Salem breakfast, and the lines on weekends are real. About $15-22/person.
The Pink House Cafe. It is in Independence, 15 miles southwest of Salem, not downtown, so build the drive in. Breakfast and lunch in a historic Victorian house with house-made pastries. About $14-22/person.
Gerry Frank's Konditorei. 310 Kearney St SE. German-style pastries and cakes with a full lunch menu behind them. The "we want something quick and very good" Salem morning. Cascade Baking Co has closed. About $8-15/person.
Salem Saturday Market. Downtown Salem, Saturdays April-October. Fresh produce, pastries, food vendors, plus local artisans. The Salem social-anchor morning.
Glenwood Restaurant. Willamette St. Locals' favorite breakfast diner, big portions, family-friendly. The campus location on Alder closed in 2021, so head to Willamette. About $12-18/person.
Studio One Cafe. Downtown Eugene. Modern brunch with a creative menu, family-friendly. About $15-25/person.

In Astoria, Astoria Coffeehouse & Bistro for breakfast classics with downtown views. Custard King on the riverfront is the breakfast-burger drive-up classic.
In Tillamook, Pacific Restaurant for diner classics. The Tillamook Creamery dining hall opens at 10 AM with grilled cheese sandwiches and ice cream if you want a creamery-themed breakfast.
In Newport, Pig N Pancake on the Bayfront for breakfast classics with bay views. Newport Cafe in Nye Beach for the local-favorite morning spot.
In Yachats, Heidi's Yachats is the long-running breakfast spot with hearty diner classics. Bread & Roses Bakery for fresh pastries. Yachats Brewing + Farmstore closed in 2024 and WildCraft Cider Works has the building now, so cross the Farmstore off older lists.
In Florence, 1285 Restobar in Old Town does a great breakfast with river views. BJ's Ice Cream & Restaurant is the family-friendly classic.
In Lincoln City, Beach Dog Cafe for breakfast burritos and surf-style classics.
In Bandon, Bandon Cafe for diner classics, Foley's Irish Pub opens early for hearty breakfast.
In Coos Bay, Sharkbites Cafe for surf-themed local breakfast. The Pancake Mill is the long-running family pancake spot, and it is in North Bend, not Coos Bay proper.
In Brookings, Hungry Clam Fish & Chips does not open until 11, so mornings go to Mattie's Pancake House on the Harbor side, which is closed Tuesday and Wednesday, or Compass Rose Cafe on Chetco Ave for all-day brunch. Cafe Kitanishi has closed, and the "Tipsy Bear" older lists name is in Michigan.
In Reedsport, Don's Diner is the small-town breakfast classic.
Inside the park, Crater Lake Lodge Dining Room serves a full hot breakfast 7-10 AM with lake views from every table. Reservations recommended for the dining room. About $15-$25/person. The breakfast move for Lodge guests and day-visitors alike.
Annie Creek Restaurant at Mazama Village serves a casual American breakfast 7-10 AM. Pancakes, breakfast burritos, eggs and bacon. Less crowded than the Lodge, family-friendly, walk-ins usually fine.
Rim Village Cafe for grab-and-go breakfast burritos, pastries, fruit, and hot drinks. Open from when the road clears in the morning, the fastest option for sunrise hikers.
Outside the park, in Klamath Falls, the Klamath Grill on Main is the all-day local spot and Basin Levain Bakery on the Esplanade does the morning pastry run, though it has been taking scheduled orders only, so call first. Mr. B's and the Daily Bagel have both closed. At Diamond Lake, The Lodge serves breakfast from 7 AM with Mt. Bailey out the window.
In Ashland, Morning Glory on A Street is the long-running breakfast favorite (lemon ricotta pancakes are the move). Greenleaf Restaurant in Lithia Park serves a creek-side breakfast with patio seating. Mix Bakeshop for fresh pastries and bread.
In Medford, Roxy Ann Diner for classic American breakfast, The Buttercloud Bakery for pastries, and 4 Daughters Irish Pub for weekend brunch.
In Jacksonville, GoodBean Cafe on the historic plaza for breakfast pastries and morning bakery items, The Mustard Seed Café for sit-down breakfast plates.
In Cave Junction, Wild River Brewing & Pizza Company serves breakfast with the local-favorite breakfast pizza. The Loaf for fresh bakery items, breakfast sandwiches, and pastries. The Chateau's 1930s-era cafe is closed while the Chateau is rehabilitated, no in-park breakfast option.
In Grants Pass (45 min east), The Vine for from-scratch breakfast plates, Powderhorn Cafe for the diner-style classic.
In Roseburg, Brix Grill on Stewart Parkway is the local-favorite breakfast and lunch spot. True Kitchen + Bar for from-scratch breakfast classics. Country Junction in nearby Sutherlin for the diner-style hearty breakfast.
In Glide, Glide Country Store + Cafe for breakfast burritos and morning bagels. The last real breakfast spot before heading east into waterfall country.
At Diamond Lake, The Lodge, which the resort itself calls the Cafe and Mt. Bailey Room, serves a full breakfast from 7 AM with lake views. There is no separate "dining room" whatever older lists say.
In Stanley, Peaks and Perks is the breakfast kiosk in a parking lot, with breakfast bagels, berry smoothies and grab-and-go for trailhead mornings, cash only, and call ahead because it is seasonal and easy to miss. Stanley Baking Company for sit-down hearty breakfast plates, and the long line on summer weekends is worth it. Sunbeam Cafe, 13 miles east at Sunbeam, for pastries and breakfast sandwiches. "Java Blue Lakes" does not exist in Stanley.
At Redfish Lake Lodge, the Lodge Dining Room serves a full breakfast 7-10 AM with lake views from every table.
In Ketchum, The Kneadery for the hearty breakfast plates locals line up for. Cornerstone Bar & Grill has closed, so cross it off. Konditorei in Sun Valley Village for cafe-style breakfast with an Austrian twist, and it is in the village, not on the mountain. Bigwood Bread for bakery items and breakfast sandwiches, and note it closes at 2:30.
At Sun Valley Lodge, Gretchen's serves breakfast in the Sun Valley Lodge lobby, named after revered skier Gretchen Fraser, covered in ski memorabilia.
In Hailey, The Wicked Spud for breakfast and lunch, and CK's Real Food, which is in Hailey rather than Ketchum whatever older lists say. The "Sun Valley Bake Shoppe" those lists name could not be found.
In downtown Coeur d'Alene, The Breakfast Nook for hearty plates and Pilgrim's Market for natural-foods grocery breakfast and pastries. Hudson's Hamburgers is a 1907 institution but it does NOT serve breakfast, it opens at 9:30 and closes mid-afternoon, so save it for lunch.
At the Coeur d'Alene Resort, Dockside Restaurant for lakefront breakfast with the famous floating-boardwalk view.
In Sandpoint, Joel's Mexican for legendary breakfast burritos, Connie's Cafe for diner classics.
Kate's Cattlemens. Riggins, on Main Street. The locals' breakfast spot, big portions, friendly service. The "we'll see you again at dinner" kind of place. American breakfast classics, family-friendly. Older lists call it Bert and Kate's. About $10-$15/person.
Two Rivers Coffee Roasters. Riggins. The to-go breakfast option, with pastries, sandwiches, and drinks. Where the river guides grab a quick breakfast. Fast, cheap, friendly.
Salmon Rapids Lodge breakfast. Continental breakfast included with your room, with eggs, waffles, fruit, and juice. The "stay and eat" option that saves money if you're lodging there.
If we have time to sit, Little Devil's Lunchbox wins every time. Smoked brisket and pulled pork in burritos and tacos. Counter service, fast, kid-friendly. Closed Sundays so plan around that.
If we have 20 minutes and need to keep driving, Frugals on Front Street. Drive-thru only since 1988, local burgers and milkshakes that are way better than fast food has any right to be. The seasonal milkshake is the move. Lavender in summer. Trust me.
Picnic mode: grab sandwiches and chips from the Safeway deli on 3rd Street and head to Hollywood Beach or up to a Lake Crescent pullout. We do this constantly.
The lodge dining room serves lunch with a lake view that costs more than the food does. Burgers, sandwiches, salads. Sit on the porch if the weather is good. Walk-in.
For picnic mode, pack from Port Angeles. Country Aire deli sandwiches eat well at one of the lake pullouts. We've done this dozens of times.
The resort snack bar has burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, and fries. Open all day. Perfect for after a hike when you don't want to wait for the dining room.

For a real picnic, hike the falls trail and eat at the footbridge. Pack out everything. There's no trash service in the woods.
For a real lunch, Dockside Grill at John Wayne Marina has fresh seafood and a water view. Fish and chips, chowder, salads. About 10 minutes from downtown. Outdoor seating in summer.
If you're already at a lavender farm, Purple Haze serves lavender lemonade, lavender ice cream, and light snacks. Eat in the field. Hard to beat.
Picnic mode: pick up sandwiches at Hi-Way 101 Diner or grab deli items from the Sequim Safeway or Costco, then head to Carrie Blake Park or the Dungeness Recreation Area. We do this all the time.
For a sit-down lunch with a water view, Doc's Marina Grill has fresh seafood, fish and chips, salads, and great burgers. Right on the waterfront with outdoor seating in summer. Walk-in.
For something with character, Lehani's Deli & Coffeehouse on Taylor Street has soups, sandwiches, and a cozy room. Right next to the Rose Theatre so you can grab lunch and a movie.
Picnic mode: grab sandwiches at Aldrich's Market in Uptown (Washington's oldest grocery store) and head up to Fort Worden or Chetzemoka Park. Sirens has waterfront patio seating if you want to sit with a view.
This is the lunch you came to Hood Canal for. Outdoor saloon at a 5th-generation working oyster farm. Fresh-shucked oysters (cooked or raw), Dungeness crab cakes with ginger and sesame, seafood chowder, beer and wine. Picnic-table seating with views of the canal. Plan a long lunch. Closed Mondays in winter.
For something less seafood-heavy, The Geoduck in Brinnon does an oyster sandwich for adults and a fish sandwich for kids that's reliably good. Walk-in.
For a real lunch, Pacific Pizza on Forks Avenue is the local pick. Hand-tossed pizza, pasta, salads, big portions. The pepperoni is plenty for two kids. Booths and tables. Walk-in.
For a Twilight-themed lunch, 3 Rivers Resort restaurant on La Push Road serves Werewolf Burgers and Cherry Vampire Shakes. Right at the Treaty Line sign. Two birds, one stop.
Picnic mode: pick up sandwiches at Forks Outfitters deli or grab from JT's Sweet Stuffs for the candy-shop experience. Eat at Tillicum Park or anywhere with a roof since it might be raining.

If you didn't pack, Lonesome Creek Store has hot dogs, burritos, and snacks. 3 Rivers Resort on La Push Road has a real sit-down lunch with Twilight-themed menu items (Werewolf Burger, Vampire Shake). Easy to combine with the Treaty Line photo stop on the way back to Forks.
Picnic spots: First Beach for drive-up convenience. Rialto Beach on the driftwood logs (bring a blanket). Mora Campground picnic area in the trees if it's raining sideways at the beach.
The visitor center has a small concession with hot dogs, chips, snacks, and drinks. It's not really a meal. Plan to picnic instead.
Hard Rain Cafe on Upper Hoh Road serves a real lunch with burgers, fries, and sit-down service. The only restaurant on the road. Easy stop on the way out.
Picnic mode: pack lunch in Forks at Forks Outfitters deli before you head out. There are picnic tables at the visitor center, near the Hoh Campground, and along the Hoh River. Eating lunch in the rainforest is the point.
If you're in Pike Place around lunchtime, Pike Place Chowder is famous for award-winning clam chowder. The line is real but moves fast. Get the sampler. Beecher's Handmade Cheese for "the world's best mac and cheese" (debatable but it's very good).
For a sit-down lunch, Etta's near Pike Place has Pacific Northwest seafood done well. Reservations recommended. Toulouse Petit in Lower Queen Anne does Cajun-Creole and is a good post-Space Needle lunch stop.
Quick lunches that aren't tourist food: Dick's Drive-In is Seattle's local fast-food chain (since 1954). Cheap, fast, very good. The Capitol Hill location is the most accessible from downtown. Or any teriyaki spot. Seattle has hundreds and most are excellent.
If you're eating once on Whidbey, make it Penn Cove mussels. Toby's Tavern in Coupeville has been serving them since 1898 in a historic waterfront building. Walk-in. The mussels alone are worth the trip. Front Street Grill next door does mussels too with similar vibes and Penn Cove views.
On Bainbridge, Hitchcock Deli for sandwiches and to-go picnic supplies. Bruciato for excellent wood-fired pizza if you're sticking around for a sit-down lunch. Cafe Nola for upscale lunch in a converted house downtown.
For a Deception Pass picnic, pack from Coupeville Farmers Market (Saturdays in season) or the deli at Prairie Center Red Apple Market in Coupeville on the way north.
On San Juan Island, San Juan Island Brewing in Friday Harbor for craft beer and pub food. Friday Harbor House for a sit-down with harbor views. Madrona Bar & Grill at Roche Harbor has dock seating and seafood.
On Orcas Island, The Lower Tavern in Eastsound for burgers and beer. Madrone Cellars for wine, charcuterie, and a slower lunch.
On Lopez, Holly B's doubles as the lunch stop with sandwiches and savory pastries. Vita's Wildly Delicious across the village does prepared foods and picnic supplies.
In Tacoma, Indochine downtown for great Vietnamese pho and bún. Marrow Kitchen + Bar for upscale lunches downtown. Duke's Seafood on Ruston Way for clam chowder and waterfront seating.
In Olympia, the Olympia Farmers Market has 7 restaurant stalls (paella, fish and chips, Bavarian sausage, tacos) you eat at outdoor picnic tables. Quality Burrito downtown for fresh Mexican. Nineveh Assyrian Restaurant for kabobs and one of the most authentic ethnic spots in the south Sound.
Sunrise Day Lodge cafeteria is the only food option inside the park on the north side. Hot sandwiches, soup, salads, snacks, hot drinks. Open early July through late September only. Eat on the deck with the mountain in front of you. Lines build at noon, eat at 11 AM or 1:30 PM to skip them.
In Greenwater, the Naches Tavern is the local-legend stop. Antlers on the walls, big burgers, old logging-town vibe. Family-friendly during the day. The general store next door has snacks and last-minute basics.
At Crystal Mountain Resort, Snorting Elk Cellar is the year-round pub option with pizza, salads, and big plates. The Summit House at the top of the gondola has lunch with the highest restaurant view in Washington (6,872 ft).

The Twilight restaurant where Edward took Bella for mushroom ravioli (yes, you can order it, yes it's the same one). Real Italian that's been around for decades. Chapter 4 covers the full Twilight trip but if you're not on that trip, the food is still genuinely worth a sit-down dinner. Closed Mondays and Sundays. Reservations smart in summer.
If you came without kids or you're trading off date night with another couple, this is the spot for steak and a real grown-up dinner.
Southwestern with a view. Bigger menu than you'd expect for a peninsula town. Good wine list. Solid for a celebration dinner.
For everyday van-life dinner with the kids, Next Door Gastropub on First Street is our easy go-to. Burgers and beer for the adults, grilled cheese and fries for the picky kid, outdoor seating in summer.
If we want flavor and big portions for not much money, Sabai Thai up the hill on 8th Street. Pad Thai, curries, the duck is incredible. Closed Mondays and most of January.
Treats: Frugals milkshake (kids), the bakery case at New Day, and the cookies at Country Aire that taste homemade because they basically are.
Hollywood Beach right downtown for kids who want to throw rocks. Salt Creek Recreation Area for tide pools and a real ocean view (about 20 minutes west). Lake Crescent pullouts on the way to Sol Duc. Hurricane Ridge meadows if you've already driven up. The Olympic Discovery Trail anywhere along the waterfront.
Pacific Northwest comfort food. Salmon, steaks, pasta. The food itself is fine, not amazing. The reason to eat here is the room itself and what it looks like at 8 PM in July when the sky turns pink. Reservations recommended in summer. Closed January through April. Limited dining room capacity right now (max 8 per group).
This is where Lake Crescent shines. Reservations are smart for dinner at the lodge in summer. Call (360) 928-3211 directly and book up to a month ahead. Sunset over the lake from the dining room is the best dinner view on the peninsula.
If the lodge is full or you're not into it, drive 25 minutes back to Port Angeles. Bella Italia or Next Door Gastropub are both good options.
Treats: The lobby bar at the lodge has pastries and hot drinks. Perfect after a chilly afternoon swim or a rainy hike.
The lodge dock and beach for the classic lake view. East Beach for sandy spots with no crowds. Any of the pullouts on the north shore where Highway 101 hugs the water. The Marymere Falls trailhead has tables in the trees. The Storm King Ranger Station picnic area has flat grass right by the lake, a hit with smaller kids.
Pacific Northwest comfort food. Salmon, steaks, pasta, vegetarian options. Reasonable prices for a remote location. Sit at a window if you can. Reservations recommended for cabin guests in summer. Open to public if seats available.
If you're driving back the same day, the closest real dining is Lake Crescent Lodge (40 min east) or back in Port Angeles (1 hour east). Save the better dinners for those nights.

The nicest restaurant in town for a real grown-up dinner. Farm-to-table, seasonal menu, garden patio in summer. Lavender shows up here in dishes you wouldn't expect. Reservations smart on weekends and during festival weekend. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Wood-fired oven, locally sourced ingredients, great wine list. The pizzas are excellent. Smaller dining room so reservations recommended in summer. A real date-night spot if you have a sitter.
For everyday family dinner, Toga's Soup House Deli & Gourmet Catering is small but consistently good. Soups, sandwiches, comfort food. Closes early so plan an early dinner.
If you want something heartier, Sergio's Hacienda for Mexican is a longtime local favorite. Big portions, kid-friendly, easy on the wallet.
Treats: Purple Haze lavender ice cream is the kid favorite. Cedarbrook Lavender's lace cookies for adults. Bell Street Bakery's lavender lemon scones for everyone.
Carrie Blake Park has shaded tables, a Japanese garden, and a pond. Dungeness Recreation Area has bluff-top tables with Strait of Juan de Fuca views. Railroad Bridge Park has tables along the river under the historic trestle. Cline Spit County Park is the locals' picnic spot with no crowds and tide pools below. Most lavender farms allow picnics on their grounds during summer.
Best dinner view in town. Watch boats come and go in Boat Haven Marina while you eat. Fresh seafood, pasta, well-curated wine list. Reservations recommended on weekends. The place locals take visitors.
An underground speakeasy in the heart of downtown. Red velvet drapes, leather couches, dim lighting, live music on weekends. Craft cocktails and a small food menu (kitchen open Friday-Saturday 5-10 PM only). Date night spot.
About 15 minutes south of downtown in Chimacum. Working farm and cidery with outdoor seating, food trucks, a play area for kids, and live music in summer. Easy with a big group. Worth the short drive.
For everyday family dinner, Sirens Pub upstairs on Water Street has a Victorian-pirate vibe and a great waterfront patio. Pub food, jambalaya, salmon, kid menu. Live music some nights.
If you want something with cider and outdoor space, Propolis Brewing serves seasonal herbal farmhouse ales with food trucks parked outside in summer.
Treats: Elevated Ice Cream is the must-stop. Scratch-made ice cream in flavors like Earl Grey and Mexican Chocolate. Right downtown across from Pope Marine Park. Dogs A Foot next door does scrumptious hot dogs March-October.
Fort Worden has tables behind the Officers' Quarters with mountain views. Chetzemoka Park has shaded tables with Cascade and Sound views. Pope Marine Park has tables right downtown for a quick stop. The bluff above Water Street has benches with sweeping water views. North Beach for driftwood logs and beach picnics.
The nicest dinner spot in the entire Hood Canal area. On the southern end at Union, with full lake-side dining, white-tablecloth feel, and a wine list that takes itself seriously. Reservations recommended on weekends. The drive down is part of the experience.
For everyday dinner, Tides Restaurant in Hoodsport serves seafood and pub food with canal views. Walk-in. Robin Hood Village Resort restaurant in Union has a more upscale menu in a historic resort setting.
If you're staying near Hoodsport, Nina's Lake Cushman Cafe is the closest sit-down option for the lake area. Comfort food, big portions, kid-friendly.
Treats: Homemade ice cream in unique flavors at Hoodsport's local shop. The Geoduck has a respectable pie selection. Hama Hama sells frozen oysters and smoked salmon to take home (yes, really, take some home).
Dosewallips State Park has tables on the beach with elk-spotting potential. Twanoh State Park has shaded tables with sandy beach access. Lake Cushman has multiple lakeside picnic spots. Any roadside pullout on Highway 101 with a beach access trail makes a great impromptu lunch spot. The fjord is right there.
Worth listing twice. The pizza is genuinely good and the menu has enough variety for picky kids. Calzones, pasta, salads, breadsticks. The dining room is small so plan an early dinner in summer or expect a wait.

The Pioneer Saloon. Main Street, Ketchum. The 1945 Sun Valley institution, steaks and prime rib and baked potatoes the size of a football. It takes NO reservations, ever, whatever older lists tell you. Bar opens 3:30, dining room 4:30, and the wait on a summer night is part of it. Every dinner comes with a house salad, there is no salad bar. About $24-$35 per entree.
