Okay so I've been to Salem, and it's one of those towns that's even more fun than you think it's going to be. The houses and the town hall from Hocus Pocus are still there, Samantha from Bewitched is sitting on her broom in the middle of downtown, and the real story of 1692 is everywhere you walk. This guide does all three, with every address and hour and price I could confirm, so you can just go.
Old Town Hall
Essex Street
Samantha
The memorialSalem, photographed by people who live near it (credits at the bottom).
Hocus Pocus was filmed in Salem, and it's still there.
A lot of the movie was shot on location in Salem and the town next door, and so much of it is still standing (one of the most famous spots isn't in Salem at all, and chapter 3 tells you where it is).
Because Salem is two trips in one.
You guys, Salem is so fun, the costumes and the movie and the little shops, and it's also where 20 people were executed in 1692, and you're walking past their story the whole time. I wanted one guide that does the fun part and the real part and tells you where they overlap.
And the information is EVERYWHERE, in TikToks and fan sites and old blog posts, and October changes everything about how you plan it. So I checked it all this October, the hours and the prices and the parking and the train, and put it in order, so all you have to do is follow it.
The Witch House
The Seven Gables
Derby WharfStand where Bette Midler sang, sit with Samantha, and read the names at the memorial. It's all still there.
Some of the most famous places from the movie and from 1692 are people's homes. The guide tells you exactly what you can see and how, so Salem keeps loving us back.
What's Inside
Twelve chapters. Every address, every hour, every price I could confirm, and an honest note wherever I couldn't.
Before You Go
What's real in Salem and what's a movie set, what's private, when to go, and how to get there without a car.
Hocus Pocus in Salem
Allison's house, the town hall from the party, the Common, the school, and where the opening scenes were filmed.
Marblehead and Old Burial Hill
The cemetery from the movie, which isn't in Salem at all, and the little harbor town around it.
Bewitched in Salem
Samantha on her broom, why the show came to Salem, and where to stand for the picture.
The Witch Trials Downtown
The memorial, the old cemetery, the Witch House, the museums, and the play where you're the jury.
Salem Village and Anne Putnam
Where it started, in what's now Danvers: the parsonage, the Nurse homestead, the memorial, and the Putnams.
Proctor's Ledge and Remembering Them
Where the executions happened, how it was finally found, and how to visit the memorials the right way.
October in Salem
Haunted Happenings, the crowds, the train and the ferry, where to park if you have to, and how to do it right.
The Rest of Salem
The House of the Seven Gables, the museum, the waterfront, and the quieter streets off Essex.
For Girls Trips and Families
The girls trip with the costumes and the movie night, and the kids version with the stops to skip.
Where to Stay and What It Costs
Downtown Salem vs staying in Boston, how to get in, what the stops cost, and when to book.
Your Itinerary Options
One day from Boston, a weekend, and the full October version, with every stop in order.
Two ways to do this trip
Who's in the car changes everything, so chapter 10 is two guides in one.
Your coven, the ones who know every word
The movie stops in the morning, a ghost tour at night, the play where you're the jury, and a historic inn downtown so you can walk everywhere.
Chapter 10 has the girls trip in order.
Half of them haven't seen it and it still works
Underneath it, this is a really good history trip, with a real 1600s house to walk through, a living history village, and a seaside park with arcades.
Chapter 10 has the kid version and the stops to skip with little ones.
However many days you've got
Salem Common
Danvers
MarbleheadChapter 12 turns the other eleven into plans you can follow, every stop in order and every booking flagged.
One day
Train in from Boston, the witch trials in the morning, and Hocus Pocus and Samantha in the afternoon.
The weekend
Adds a night downtown, Marblehead, Danvers, and the quietest stop in the guide. This is the one I'd do.
The October version
Adds Haunted Happenings, the house from the book, and the play where you're the jury.
What you're getting
A website, not a PDF
It lives right here on bellebucket.com behind your login. Nothing to download, nothing to lose in your files app.
Built for your phone
Because you're going to read it on Essex Street in a witch hat, not at a desk. Addresses tap straight into maps.
Yours forever, updates included
When a museum changes its hours or a new memorial opens, it updates and you already own it.
Checked this October
Every hour, price and date was checked against the real sites in October 2026, and where I couldn't confirm something it says so instead of guessing.
Questions people ask
Was Hocus Pocus really filmed in Salem?
A lot of it, yes, and a lot of it is still standing. Chapters 2 and 3 have every spot and which ones you can get close to.
Is Salem good with kids?
Yes! It's a great history trip for kids, but some of the October stuff is really scary, and chapter 10 has the stops to skip.
Do I need a car?
Not for downtown, and in October I really wouldn't bring one. Chapter 1 has how to get there without one.
When should I go?
October if you want Haunted Happenings, but chapter 1 has the months I'd look at if you want the town without the crowds.
In October the whole town dresses up, and the rest of the year it's a pretty little harbor town with a heavy story.
Once. All twelve chapters, yours forever, updates included.
