Okay so I live in Utah, and a LOT of the Christmas movies you watch every December were filmed here. The lodge, the little main street, the train, the mountain at the end. So many of them are places you can walk into or stay at, and I wanted them all on one map, with every address and hour and price I could confirm, which ones are private, and the order I'd do it in, so you can just go.

The short version

The Christmas movie towns are real, and a lot of them are here.

Netflix, Hallmark and Disney keep coming back to Utah for the snow and the small towns, and so many of the spots you know from the screen are still right there. The big fancy hotel from the Lindsay Lohan one. The cozy little lodge from the same movie, twenty minutes away. The inn that's been in two Hallmark movies. The train. The bank. The mountain where the Grinch's heart grows.

A couple of them you can sleep in. A couple of them are people's houses, and the guide tells you which, so you know where to stand and where not to.

Why I built this one

Because they're all right here.

You guys, the list of Christmas movies filmed in Utah is SO long. Hallmark alone has filmed in some of these little towns more than once, and Netflix keeps coming back too, and every December I'd be watching one and go wait, that's Heber.

But the info is all over the place, in fan sites and old news stories and comment sections, and half of it is wrong or out of date, and none of it tells you what's open on a Sunday or whether you can drive the canyon that day. So I checked it all this fall, what's real and what's private and what needs a ticket and what the roads are like, and put it in order, so all you have to do is follow it.

One thing before you keep reading

Some of the houses from these movies are people's real homes, on real streets, with real neighbors. The guide tells you exactly what you can see and how, and gives you a public street full of lights instead, so the neighbors keep saying yes to the next movie.

12

Your Itinerary Options

The Falling for Christmas day, a Hallmark weekend, and the full week, with every stop in order and every booking flagged.

Two ways to do this trip

Who's in the car changes everything, so chapter 10 is two guides in one, plus the version for a couple.

The girls trip

The friends who watch Hallmark with you every year

An inn from the movies, dinner on a lit-up main street, a sleigh ride up a ski run to dinner, the lodge where she wakes up, and the movie on in the room the night before each town.

Chapter 10 has the girls trip in order, and the version for a couple.

With the family

The kids who just want Santa and the Grinch

Underneath it, this is a really good Christmas trip for kids, with a North Pole train, a 1964 bowling alley, a soda fountain, a scavenger hunt for the state's film markers, and lights everywhere.

Chapter 10 has the kid version by age, the Sunday plan, and what to skip with little ones.

Chapter 12 turns the other eleven into plans you can follow, every stop in order and every booking flagged, plus the Christmas week version and what to do when it snows.

1

The Falling for Christmas day

One day in the mountains with the hotel, the lodge, the bank, the bowling alley and a Hallmark main street.

2

The Hallmark weekend

Adds the inn from two movies, the town that's one block and all of it is in a movie, the courthouse from Jingle Belle, and the best free Christmas thing in the state. This is the one I'd do.

3

The full week

Adds the Grinch's mountain, a Netflix town, a street of lights, and the biggest light show in Utah.

Checked this fall

Everything was checked against the real sites in October 2026, and where I couldn't confirm something it says so instead of guessing.

Questions people ask

Was Falling for Christmas really filmed in Utah?

Yes, and you can visit the spots. Chapters 2 and 3 have both halves of it, plus which parts you can see without staying there.

Can I stay in any of the movies?

Two of the inns take guests, and one of them costs a lot less than you'd think. Chapter 11 has both.

Do I need a car?

Yes. The spots are spread out across northern Utah, and chapter 1 has what to know about driving in the snow and the canyon rule that turns cars around.

Is this good with kids?

So good. Chapter 10 has the kid version by age and the couple of things I'd skip with little ones.

When should I go?

Chapter 1 has the weeks I'd pick if you want it to look like the movies, and chapter 9 has the whole December calendar.

What about the Grinch?

Whoville was a set in California, but the mountain at the end is real and it's here. Chapter 6.
