Okay so when I started looking up where things were filmed my jaw literally dropped. The school. The Cullen house. The diner where Charlie and Bella ate. The prom. All of it is in Oregon.
Not Forks. Not even close. The whole first movie was basically shot across a stretch of Oregon and just barely into Washington, all within a couple hours of Portland. Which sounds like it should be disappointing but honestly? It's the coolest thing ever. Because now there's a whole separate trip built around these spots and you can hit almost all of them in ONE day if you plan it right.
Here's every stop with the exact address and exactly what scene happened there. Let's go.
This is the house Kristen Stewart walked into. A 1930s farmhouse on a quiet little street in St. Helens that was Bella's whole world for the first movie. White, two stories, that driveway, the bedroom window Edward climbed in through. Exactly how you remember it.
The owners bought it specifically to turn it into a Twilight experience and they did it SO well. Inside it's decorated to match the movie as close as they could get, original furniture from the film and Bella's room looking like it did on screen and actual props from production. You can rent it on Airbnb and it's amazing. This is the movie house. The book house is in Forks (Chapter 5) and the two are totally different kinds of surreal.
Bella pulling up to Forks for the first time. Edward in her bedroom. Charlie cleaning his gun on the porch when Edward comes to get her for prom. All of it at this address.
If you're not renting it, stay at the end of the driveway for photos. Don't block anything and don't walk up to the house. The owners have been so nice to fans for years because people have been respectful. Keep it that way.
St. Helens is also where they filmed Halloweentown. The same main street that was Forks in Twilight is where they shot most of the original movie. If you're a person of a certain age who grew up on Disney Channel (hi), this town is gonna get you on two separate levels.
This one stops you cold. You're driving through the Northwest District of Portland and you turn onto Quimby and there it is. Modern and glass and wood and trees pressing in from every side. It looks exactly like the movie because it IS the movie.
It was designed by Jeff Kovel from Skylab Architecture and owned by a Nike designer, and the filmmakers found it in a Portland design magazine. They filmed inside and out but only for the first movie. New Moon and Eclipse moved to a different house up in West Vancouver and Breaking Dawn built everything on a soundstage in Louisiana. So this one's the original. The one that started it all.

A real family lives here. Stay at the end of the driveway and keep it short and be sweet to the neighbors. The owner has said fans are welcome but visit means visit, don't camp out haha. Weekday morning is the best time, fewer people and better light through the trees.
Okay this is the hidden gem almost nobody knows about and I love telling people this.
Remember the winding, canopy covered road that leads up to the Cullen house? That dreamy tree tunnel drive? It's not in Portland. They filmed it separately at a spot called The Shire on State Road 14 in Washougal, Washington, about 25 miles east of Portland along the Gorge. It looks EXACTLY like the movie and it's a gorgeous drive anyway.
Most people who drive all the way to the Cullen house have no idea this road exists. The whole stretch of SR-14 through the Gorge is beautiful with or without the Twilight connection. Do the detour.
This is the diner. Where Charlie and Bella ate. Twice. A little family owned breakfast and lunch spot on Highway 224 in Damascus, about 20 miles southeast of Portland. It's been open over 20 years and it looked exactly like this when they filmed. The owners haven't changed much on purpose. They know what they've got.
Inside there's photos and fan art and a guest book people from all over the world have signed. The staff knows the whole story and they're so sweet about it. And the food is really really good, this isn't a tourist trap that forgot to try. People drive here just for breakfast and people drive here just for Twilight and both are totally valid.
Charlie and Bella's dinner after her first day at Forks High. They come back later in the movie too. And I saved the best for last- Stephenie Meyer has a cameo in this scene. She's the woman sitting by a laptop ordering a vegetarian sandwich in the background, around the 1 hour 12 minute mark. You'll never watch that scene the same way again.
Bella's Berry Cobbler and Alice's Cinnamon French Toast and the blueberry pancakes. Go hungry.
Tuesday through Sunday, 8am to 2pm. Closed Mondays. Breakfast and lunch only, so if you show up on a Monday or after 2 you'll be super sad on the sidewalk.
Just barely over the Oregon line into Washington, Kalama High School was every outside shot of Forks High in the movie. The parking lot and the van scene and the picnic tables where the kids sat during the one sunny day. All of it here.
Kalama is right on I-5 about 45 minutes north of Portland so it fits into the Oregon day super easily if you're heading north anyway. It's a real school so you're staying outside, but the parking lot looks exactly like the movie and it's worth the stop. Ya know?
The van scene where Edward stops it with his hand. The outside tables where the Cullens sat by themselves. Bella's first real look at Edward before biology. This parking lot is iconic and I don't say that lightly.
The inside of Forks High- the cafeteria where Bella first sees the Cullens across the room, the hallways, the biology room where she sits next to Edward and he spends the whole class silently losing his mind- all of that was Madison High School in northeast Portland.
Also a real school so drive by and take your photo and keep moving. But the cafeteria scene is one of the most famous in the whole movie and it happened right in this building.
The cafeteria and the Cullens at their table and Jessica narrating and Bella seeing all of them for the first time. Biology and the hallway run ins. The whole inside of Forks High.
The prom. Edward and Bella dancing. The gazebo. The whole Columbia River Gorge spread out below them. That scene.
The View Point Inn is about 22 miles east of Portland up on a bluff above the Gorge with this huge view of the valley and the river and the city lights. It's one of the prettiest spots on the whole trip, Twilight or not. And the drive up through the Gorge to get there is unreal.
The inn has changed hands a few times so check current hours and access before you go. But the spot itself, that bluff and that view and those steps, is there and it's stunning.
The whole prom. Edward telling Bella he's not gonna change her. Bella thinking he's about to. The dance and the gazebo and James watching from the dark. All of it with the Gorge glowing underneath.
Film yourself on those steps at dusk with the Gorge behind you. Have someone get the wide shot from below. You'll know it when you see it.
The ballet studio where James lures Bella and the whole end of the first movie goes down is the Yale Union building in Portland's Central Eastside. Old brick warehouse on SE 10th. Easy to photograph from the street, no special access.

How to Hit All of Them in One Day
Here's the route that makes sense geographically. It's a full day but it's totally doable and every mile is worth it.

Start in St. Helens. Swan House outside, main street photos. Drive the town slow, it's Halloweentown too and the whole downtown has personality.

Head south into Portland. Cullen House on Quimby and then a Madison High drive by and then the Yale Union building. Both neighborhoods are worth wandering past just the Twilight stuff.

Lunch at the Carver Cafe in Damascus. Non negotiable. They stop serving at 2 so plan around it.

Kalama High School. Back on I-5 north, just over the Washington line. The parking lot and the van scene spot. Then keep going north.

Optional: View Point Inn at dusk. If you have it in you, head east from Portland along the Gorge to Corbett for the prom spot at sunset. Golden hour in the Gorge is unreal. End the day there with the valley under you.
Total driving without the View Point detour is around four or five hours. Add another hour with the Gorge. It's a long day but every mile is pretty and every stop delivers. Start early and move at a good pace but don't rush it.
